The largest effort of the Cosmic Serpent program is focused on professional development workshops for museum practitioners, including helping to build on the relationships and expertise developed in these workshops. Participants will gain awareness of diverse cosmologies and epistemologies and thus an increased understanding of the nature and cultural roots of science (western, native, or otherwise). We aim to serve practitioners at 96 science centers/museums and tribal cultural museums in the U.S. Southwest, West, and Northwest (eight states) through three full workshops, three follow‐up workshops, continuing communication and regional networks. “Participant Experience” on the tab to the left will lead to an example of what a participant might experience at one of our workshops. Travel, sustenance, and lodging to our workshops are free to the participants.
Culminating Conference: May 3-5th, 2011, Taos, NM, at El Monte Sagrado Hotel.
Registration open. The goals of this conference are: (1) for Cosmic Serpent Fellows from all three regions (Southwest, Northwest, California-Hawaii) to have an opportunity to share with one another their accomplishments and work related to collaborations between Indigenous Knowledge and Western Science in museum settings; (2) for non-Cosmic Serpent Fellows to have a chance to learn from Cosmic Serpent Fellows and to share their own work related to the collaborations between Indigenous Knowledge and Western Science in educational settings; (3) for all conference attendees to learn more about Indigenous Ways of Knowing through keynote presentations from experts in the field.
